My issues go deeper then some....

I guess I would like to start this blog with introducing myself. I'm a undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. My major is psychology and an accidental minor in Social Work (long story). As of right now my heart lies with activism around the issues of interpersonal violence; meaning domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. I joined Peers for Pride because I felt as though I was not educated in the LGBTQ issues. I personally believe that the LGBTQ community is not supported by our government and our society. I see everyone equal. I believe that there is nothing wrong if you identify with a different sexuality. Your sexuality doesn't define who you are. Granted, in today's society, labels are a BIG THING, and because of this, I believe that we tend to define ourselves by our label, but I want to fight against this...........we are all more than just a label.

So that is who I am.

Anyways, I would like to share with you something that has been on my mind and has been an issue across our country. Right now, the GOP is attempting to re-define rape under No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. I believe that rape is not prejudice, it happens to everyone, and by the GOP re-defining rape, it holds consequences for those that have been victims of corrective rape, statutory rape and so forth. It worries me that this act will pass! Just because the "way right" wants to stop abortion doesn't mean that they need to find some sort of back door way to stop abortion.

The link that I have provided is from the Daily show from Comedy Central. John Stewart and Kristen Schaal talk about the clarifications on No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.

Enjoy!
