Dragaoke is back!

On Thursday September 2, 2010 Austin's premiere drag king troupe, Kings N' Things, is hosting yet another amazing splash of lip syncing, dancing, dressing, dragging, and glitter otherwise known as Dragaoke. This event raises money for the troupe to travel to the International Drag KingCommunity Extravaganza (see:http://www.idke.info/), an annual convention that brings kings from around the world to learn, grow, network and perform like nobody's business. Dragaoke works like karaoke sans the singing with lots of dress up. You can bring your own music or use what the DJ has, come dressed up or try on the plethora of costumes, make up and faux facial hair provided, and finally get on stage and do what you do. I tried it last month after a bit of peer pressure and have to admit, being the center of attention while acting a fool was like ecstasy. Everyone was very accepting and I immediately felt at home. Not to mention there are some people who've been doing this for a long time and to call them amazing would be an understatement.

September's event will be at The United States Art Authority at 2906 Fruth St. It is an all ages show, starts at 10pm, doors open at 9pm. There is a $7 cover, $5 if you dress to impress (this is very much up to interpretation from what I understand). Don't forget to bring some extra cash to tip the performers. They like that. Hope to see you there!
